orthodox suffering 4 life
a big fat case of festival gaze, the contagious disease plaguing the romanian new wave
you know, when a filmmaker makes a film that feels overly aware that it will be shown to a politically educated, international audience?
sorry but i don't think films should be made with european film juries in mind. over-contextualizing and neatly packaging your people's history and culture to export it for intellectual consumption is a form of fetishizing cultural trauma — AND you're ignoring the very people whose history you mined for festival prestige
1. woman exists only to suffer so male protagonist can "find" himself
2. sexual assault as plot device??
3. director vomiting slimy rape fantasies exposing his rotten, predatory, self-congratulatory male gaze
4. i hate the male gaze it makes me want to peel my skin off just so i don't ever have to be perceived again
5. women getting sacrificed at the altar of male “genius", how visionary. mysoginy isn't art.
