Feels like a direct ancestor of Catch-22 and M*A*S*H* (the TV show) with its rapid tonal shifts between irreverent wit and the horrors of war, ultimately going to some very dark places.
They really just shoehorned Carole Lombard in there to check a box, didn’t they?
There’s a shot in this where Olivia de Havilland’s face de-ages a couple of decades right before our eyes and some people will tell you it was done with clever lighting, but the truth is she was just that good.
