Well made movie with a story that shouldn’t convey to the screen, but is easily done with great acting, direction and editing. It’s easy to feel the fear and vertigo of the protagonists, as if you are truly there. The discomfort just from watching is real. Although I suspect many or most of those that watched this a quicker than me, the ending caught me off guard anyway. Sad but satisfying.
Definitely a Flanagan film. Attention to detail, jump scare avoidance and really good cinematography. The basic story is familiar, but Flanagan’s directing and writing freshens an old concept and as usual he is deft at building tension until the climax. The final shot, to me, was chilling.
Flanagan understands horror. OHe creates an overwhelming sense of doom that is inescapable for everyone.
Certainly identifiable as a Guy Ritchie film it eventually starts rolling into a fun movie. Way too much upfront exposition bogs down the first half. I really enjoyed Hugh Grant as the weasley wannabe bad guy.
