Holds up on a rewatch, unsurprisingly. Now with more experienced eyes the camerawork, colors and lighting all stand out a little more, the end credits sequence for instance is not something I hear talked about a lot but that part is eye candy. These "God's lonely man" movies have probably influenced my taste more than I'd like to admit, given the kinds of people they often attract, but there is a lot of truth and emotional power in them.

I think this improves on Damian McCarthy's previous horror film Oddity quite a bit in some aspects, he gets to be a bit more ambitious and play with some bigger ideas here, but it also does feel a little less focused. The first time I saw this, I loved it, but it didn't really hit me emotionally until after it had ended.

This time, I found myself holding my breath and tearing up more times than I could count. What a heartbreaking, breathtaking film. Quite possibly my favorite of the decade.

And Frankie Corio's performance is still the best performance I have ever seen from a child actor.
