Most horror genres are built around the structure of children's games. Slashers are Hide and Seek, Ghost stories are Peek-a-boo, and Zombie movies are Tag (you're bit). The brilliance of TREMORS is that it's basically a feature length game of The Floor is Lava.

As a companion piece to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), The Beginning doesn't quite reach the same heights, but it does help fill in some of the missing teeth.

We actually get a new take on the infamous dinner scene this time around, something the 2003 movie omitted entirely. We also get to see the evolution of the Hewitt family into the monstrous caricature of Southern hospitality that they would eventually become.
