For my money, this is the definitive 90s DBZ movie. It confidently crams together the universe's most chaotic, interesting bits and bobs while striking a brilliant balance: it’s effortlessly cheeky, fun, and charming without ever devolving into total self-parody. Peak DBZ comfort food.

If you ever hear someone argue that the American white establishment lacks a native, chaotic heritage, just point them directly to this movie. Norman Mailer somehow packed an entire ecosystem of cocaine shawtys, prissy WASP bitch boys, townie meth heads, and general degenerates into a single, unhinged neo-noir masterpiece

What amounts to Hooper’s most realized vision. Lefty playing the savior archetype only to completely abandon Stretch to the wolves the second he gets his chainsaws.

A total takedown of the Dallas/Ft. Worth pablum pony show that is Texas/OU weekend.

A real life decaying theme park acting as the literal manifestation of Texas cultural/economic rot in the 80s.

At times evoking the early tactile work of Guy Maddin but simultaneously channeling John Waters camp and the pitch black sketch comedy of League of Gentlemen, made all the better by the Stink-O-Vision scratch-and-sniff card.

Where have you been all my life? Another life-changing year of movie watching is almost over. Buddhas Palm is one of the best experiences I’ve had since Holy Flame of the Martial World.

Just about every trope, set piece, practical wizardry, and genuine insanity that is so prevalent through this era of Shaw Bros.

A kind soul on Twitter uploaded an incredible grimy original open matte 16mm scan of this. It will forever be the only way that I watch this from here on out.

Traipsing through the Wiki I saw that Hooper actually significantly cut the gore and violence in order to seek a distributor that would pick this thing up. Crazy that he was hoping for a PG.
