Simple but excellent, like a gourmet soup
Clunky and unfocused. Yes, pursuing political power isn’t the best way to “be a force for good.” There are more direct ways to improve people’s lives other than buying into a system that extinguishes idealism by requiring seven hours a day of phone bank fundraising instead of actually connecting with real people. A streamlined version of that story might have been successful. It tried to do too much, and lost the plot.
Also, Mackey’s overarticulated attempt at an American accent was distracting. The same is true of the story’s overwrought efforts to avoid specifying any particular state or political party.
I rewatched this after seeing Freaky Tales, which included a reference to it. Although it has been at least 10 years since I last watched it, it holds up. Although the technology has changed, especially as far as cycling equipment goes, the themes still resonate.
If Krzysztof Kieslowskinjad done a “Four Colors” series, this would have been “Green.”
