Psycho Killer
★½ Watched

I know there's a portion of people who watch movies these days and think a movie doing any set-up or foreshadowing makes it "predictable." The response to this is not to throw in new elements at the beginning of the third act because it really makes your movie seem disheveled and poorly executed.

The plot is so messy. This movie spends so much time from the killer's perspective and doesn't actually DO anything with it. We learn nothing about him.…

Child's Play
★★★★ Watched

I love all the camera tricks and cuts to give us the doll-perspective or to just hide that it was Chucky doing all the killing in the first half. Then effects in the second half of seeing Chucky move around, be it the puppet or the double in a suit, it's all great. The tension between the battery reveal and the first time we see Chucky's face change is so good.

Yeah, this movie is goofy as hell and that's saying something because it's one of the least goofy installments of the franchise. But it's fun and you get some high quality kid acting.

This movie is nearly 20 years old and I'm just watching it for the first time. I'm actually glad I watched it now and not earlier because I don't think I would have appreciated some of the details in the production and costume design, or the stellar cinematography. There is such a rich visual language in this film and I have a better grasp on it now than I would have even 10 years ago.

I keep watching movies this year that make me go, "Is this the best movie I've ever seen?" and I love it. Another one on the list.

Macbeth

It's hardly the most groundbreaking production of Macbeth, but it is unapologetically Scottish and if you want to see David Tennant be Macbeth, it's great for that. He does a wonderful job. I thought Cush Jumbo was particularly spectacular. I loved the way they did the witches, I thought that was clever and effective.

Clearly, the sound design was meant to be listened to through the headphones provided at the theatre and not through movie theater speakers. There was so…
