Not sure how much longer it'll hold out through the 8 films I have left, but thanks to Szczechura for continuing to do silent films, so I can follow them. That lack of dialogue, the flock of crows (?) flying right at the camera and the dimly shaded setting set up a fittingly foreboding atmosphere before the characters are revealed to be staging a hanging. And the "burning fingers" of the title along with some not shown violence in the second half sustain this as the darkest Szczechura yet through to the end.

Was that poster image in the film? It's not what the main cat looked like anyway. Quite a different-looking art style and general feel/tone to Szczechura's previous films. I liked the bird designs, not so keen on the cat one, the face was a bit too human-looking to me.

Enjoyable minimalist early film from Chang Cheh. It will quickly become clear to anyone who's seen the excellent Killer Constable (1980) that it was actually a remake of this, albeit one which expanded on the plot and is generally better all round, thanks to a larger budget.

Still, there are plenty of unusual weapons in this one such as the projectile shooting "Golden Abacus" or the main villain's bladed umbrella which make it interesting enough, as well as some decent one-against-many fight scenes mainly featuring Lo Lieh or David Chiang. Worth a watch for any fans of early Cheh or Killer Constable.

Hmm, The Florida Project had heart, but Super Inframan had a Super Inframan.
