I did not like this. Extremely stressful and scary throughout but also plodding and pointless. It felt less like a taut psychological thriller/horror and more like a mediocre Inside No 9 episode stretched to an hour and twenty minutes. A genuinely quite unpleasant cinema experience.
A whole lot of set up - and don't get me wrong it's tense, scary, funny, gripping set up - but precious little pay off. Acted well, shot well, directed well, and broadly speaking written well but I left the cinema not really knowing what it was meant to be about. The shattering effects of mass violence? Not really. The suspicion and paranoia that follows trauma? Not wholly that either. A commentary on modern America's relationship to the horror ofβ¦
