Tilda Swinton’s dance is a nice echo, iteration on Jordan’s dance from the early short films.
The film is very very good, tho I wonder about the use of archival home movies - they put a nostalgic glint to the film which could be read in an unfortunately regressive manner - it sort of reminds me of how Peter Gabriel uses home movies to maudlin effect in his videos.
The movie itself is brilliant & often difficult to watch as scenes of domestic militarization strongly echo Ukraine & Gaza in 2026.

I was almost disappointed upon the inclusion of the first sex scene which wasn’t an in-universe cassette artifact. The manifestation of an object within a fictive space is interesting me, as I return to Gene Wolfe in my readings. Turtle Vision is particularly bleak & presents the dire inevitable endgame of empathy beyond one’s self. I continue to adore Sato’s use of SF tangents on the edge of his films - Zulawski often used a similar tactic in the west.
