The cis straight man’s inability to express his feelings is the root of all our problems !!!! I consider this a feminist fable with an unexpectedly nuanced narrative around attachment, autonomy and proprietorial relationships. Gory, brutal, and funny. A cautionary love story!
It balanced several referential nods to Possession (of course) and Nekromantik without feeling contrived. Moralistic horror is usually problematic and/or hokey, but this punches down on men who continue to make horrible decisions in a way that I found deeply entertaining. The sensational conniptions of Inde Navarrette sold me.
I’m constantly trying to define why I find this Nightmare sequel so enthralling, especially because I’ve yet to meet another person who likes it. The effects are SO GOOD. The dinner scene had the MPAA very upset, and I believe they cut some scenes for the initial release because it is so gruesome.
I love the dynamic between the teens in this one. Their gang feels sort of unusual because somehow the model, jock, comic-obsessed art student and the girl…
