Godzilla Minus One

A film that simultaneously honours the majesty of Godzilla and the tragedy of World War II. Takashi Yamazaki delivers a blockbuster worthy of the tributes it pays to a certain Mr. Spielberg.

Enjoyable and well rounded characters exist in a traumatized Japan, laden with post-war guilt and that's where Godzilla Minus One really excels. Yamazaki rejects the need to anthropomorphize the titular character and instead trusts his characters to do the heavy-lifting. That's not to say that we don't get…

I was well aware of the negative reception the film had received before sitting down to watch this and yet, somehow, this was still worse than I expected.

I've sat on this for a couple of days because I was so irritated after watching and I didn't want emotions to cloud my thoughts...
.... it hasn't helped in the slightest.

David Gordon Green, what in the world are we going to do with you? You can't just be going around…

Over Your Dead Body

Nothing overly original to be found but the screen writing for the first two acts of this was surprisingly great. Unfortunately, this is let down by an incredibly messy final 30 mins.

Weaving/Segel have their work cut out for them, covering a blend of acting, comedy and action but they both deliver the goods.

As much as I appreciate seeing Paul Guilfoyle on screen the character was entirely unjustified and should not have been anywhere near the film - a…

People giving Lee Cronin's The Mummy abuse for wearing it's Evil Dead influences firmly on it's sleeve but 25 years earlier, Sommers basically delivered Indiana Jones Vs The Mummy and no one bats an eyelash!

Loved this as a kid and always have an enjoyable time whenever I revisit. Great gateway horror that balances it's cartoonish fun well.

Nosferatu

2024 has been a seminal year for Horror fans and Eggers refuses to be left out of the conversation.

It would be very easy to beat Nosferatu with the 'it's been done before' stick but I believe that taking a text with such recognizable significance to cinema and still being able to elevate it must surely be one of the hardest skills for a filmmaker to master and by God does Eggers knock this one out of the park.

I…

Zach Cregger is batting 1000 when it comes to Horror movies and I couldn't be more here for it.

Massive fan of Barbarian and I've been eagerly awaiting his next release but after being so disappointed earlier this year by Osgood Perkins' follow up to Longlegs (another modern Horror I hold in high regard), I was fully expecting to be hurt again.

Thankfully, my skepticism was unfounded as instead Cregger wrapped me in the loving embrace of a tightly written and carefully balanced Horror gem.
