everyone’s primary grievance with this seems to be it’s total bastardization of the source material, and so i feel uniquely qualified to say, as someone who managed to make it through four years of high school honors english without reading wuthering heights, this is absolutely horrendous on its own merits with somehow even more hitlerite politics than saltburn
unbearable if taken at face value, but works when appreciated as a satire of the emerging “eat-the-rich” subgenre, which was pretty clearly its intention. the hollowness of films like the menu, triangle of sadness, and glass onion is not only the subject of ruthless mockery, but in its self-awareness has more heart than any of its contemporaries.
