At 35 years old, T2 has held up “like gangbusters,” as Billy Friedkin might say. This RC Cola Star is Born—notoriously 'the film that killed Richard Marquand'—is a ditzy, amorphous mess with about as much depth about the music industry as a Saturday morning cartoon. Though the filmmakers manage to sew a few new ideas into the Hellraiser fabric, this "reboot" finds Hellraiser scaled way down rather than opened up. The self-seriousness feels posturing and empty, instead of sexy like in Barker's original. It's really just thinly veiled "kids in a spooky house" horror, and no one should mistake this for a "new vision" of anything.
A sitcom, seemingly written and made in haste to capitalize on the success of Longlegs, which I now have no desire to revisit, feeling my initial impression of it as pandering and phony has been validated.
