Terrific, in all meanings of the word. More than just neighbours beefing. Gets so much right about the intersecting complexities of class, nationality, male rivalries, and, increasingly, about the impact those rivalries can have on the women experiencing them secondhand.

I think it’s best to abandon the idea that Die, My Love is in any way about postpartum depression, something which promoters and many critics insist is the case. Ramsay doesn’t seem interested in psychology, or realism. So it’s madness as metaphor, which I’m afraid has long been one of my cinema pet peeves. I’m sure for many this film will be something of a cathartic experience, but to me it was nothing but a barrage of generic, nameless movie-insanity…

After the snoozefest that was Wild Orchid you wouldn’t think I’d bother with this one. Well, you’d be wrong, because strangely enough the sequel-in-name has nothing at all to do with the first film.
