really gorgeous, filled with longing, with the added layer of knowing as a viewer that these characters will in fact meet again, that it will be a long time til that happens, that life is long and complicated and hard. their softness towards one another is noteworthy and admirable. oh to be open to love’s touch even for a moment!
in our theater viewing a woman collapsed directly following buckley’s grief stricken howl, and the entire room’s focus shifted to the center where she lay, offering water, a cushion for her head, an emergency call. while we waited for help to come we whispered solemnly, shaken. the tears dried on my face.
imagine my heart pounding when later in the film an entire audience of hands extended towards the dying hamlet on stage, mother held by community and theatrical ritual. a room of people joined in grief and care is powerful. grateful for this experience.
