I wish the film avoided showcasing the character playing Justice Chandru with slo-mo shots and rousing music every-time he said or did something. I also wish the film showcased more of the Irular community’s anger, not just their helplessness. Nevertheless, this is a powerful film that offers a view into deeply entrenched institutional casteism, police brutality, and systemic dehumanisation of tribal communities. It shows us how Institutions, systems, incentives and accountability structures are altered to protect oppressors alone when they, in theory, must ensure justice and protection for all people.
As an F1 fan, I did not enjoy the movie at all. The dialogues were trite and melodramatic. The characters were odd and unrealistic with no real depth. Brad Pitt showed up with his typical smouldering look and bad-boy energy throughout which was quite annoying. The romance arc between Kate (the race engineer) and Sonny Hayes was cringey and straight out of a teenage drama. In any case, I don’t think this was an entirely realistic representation of driver attitudes,…
Worstu da dei. Inexcusable amount of blatant misogyny and patriarchy even for the times it came out in. It’s one thing if these themes are present in a movie, but the whole point of this movie seems to be to justify and glorify gendered roles and female submission. By the end of it, when the female protagonist gets a high from his slap and embraces the submission, I lost the will to live, lol.
Goundamani and Rajini’s escapade to the movie theatre was fun to watch but other than that, simply waste.
