what a ride.
cosmatos' films undoubtedly have the sauce, and even though his later entry mandy feels more defined and experienced in it's execution, i would argue that this one is as expressive and artistic.
beyond the black rainbow is more subtle though and the rather simple plot is carried almost exclusively by the amazing execution. still, some scenes (especially in the first half) could have been shorter anf more time used on exploring the institute instead.
seeing nyle become completely derailed, when given absolute power over someone else was simultaneously terrifying and devastating.
contains about 3 separate films and at least 5 endings, of which i only liked some.
after the first 45 reasonable entertaining minutes, it slowly lost it's focus and ended in a very poorly paced, distractingly cut and overall bizarre third act.
in some moments, i wanted to draw some parallels to the mortal remains, but honestly can't provide much evidence support them.
at the end of the day, my mom would not have liked this move very much, and i will keep judging movies, that do not meet that standard.
