One of the best stage-to-screen musical adaptations I've seen. It's truly epic in every sense and feels so cinematic. The decision to have the actors sing live instead of in ADR gives it a sense of raw emotion. The huge takes that feel like oners for lots of the songs, combined with the handleld camera work, which often gets right up close to the actors' faces, adds that sense too. Even more enjoyable that my previous watch. A true visual feast. The production design is off the charts. Great space adventure, great acting and great moral grey areas. Love it. Nice nods to 2001 and The Shining, too.

There is definitely a novelty of seeing these two on the big screen, in real sets and breaking out of 'the volume'. Gunn swings for the fences with some crazy concepts and doesn't give the audience a lot of time to orient themselves. It might well be off-putting to the uninitiated. The cast in undeniably huge and some characters are under-served but most get fleshed out very well. Corenswet soars as Superman; Brosnahan more than holds her own as Lois and Hoult is brilliant and very…
