I fell asleep watching the original 135-minute cut of this on tv about ten years ago. Probably about 20 minutes in, though I can’t remember. It has a sort of ambient quality that is really conducive to snoozing. This time, it was the 108-minute cut on the big screen, and it was a perfect cinema experience. The acting, the faces, the vibes — they’re all off the chain. I only slept for about 15 minutes too, and luckily it was for the bit where he kills the Chinese bookie, a plot point I was able to deduce from context and the title of the film.

Only a yank could make as credulous a piece of propaganda about British state-sponsored sectarian mass-murder in Ireland, and package it as "the truth they don't want you to hear".

Collusion here is reduced to the bumbling actions of a British state, police and military apparatus more interested in "protecting informants" than preventing or indeed prosecuting the killings of innocent Irish people.
