Final 30 mins had me locked in!! So nice to see a film that has its best work in the final act
I’m not even sure what I can rate this. The comedy is good I enjoyed the story and the acting. But this film is incredibly racist. A huge part of this film’s premise is based on Orientalism - be it in situating a humanised protagonist against the homogenised Japanese, or using ridiculous tropes in Othering Japanese people and culture. I don’t think a single Japanese character/actor comes off in a good way in this film. What’s worse, in interviews, Sofia…
Shoutout to all the sights and wonders of Bromley on display!😍😍😍😍
Separately though maybe one of the most interesting films I’ve watched this year. Such a great directorial debut for Harry Lighton with such a tactile, sardonic and honest journey of self-discovery.
