I think I liked this?
I have never watched the Backrooms series (I saw the whole first episode like the day before we went to see the movie). But I get, and like, the general idea.
But, as someone who is very tied to locations and the memory of them, my enjoyment of the concept is more dependent on the horror of unknowable and seemingly infinite spaces. Also, horror is typically one of my least favorite genres and I always favor…
Very entertaining. The fights are unsurprisingly excellent and fun. The comedic parts are pretty funny (the handcuffs bit in particular). And the jackets, especially Cynthia Khan’s are phenomenal (this is what the ‘90s took from us…). All in barely more than an hour and a half! Great fun, will not disappoint any action movie fan.
Incidentally, I was surprised to see this was apparently the last film Yat-Chor Yuen’s was in, which is a shame since he is so good here as Luk Wan-Ting. Then again, if I had to get beat up as much as he does here, I might have retired also.
