a scrappy, uneven project that moves in fits and starts but is still extremely enjoyable. there is maybe simultaneously too much plot and not quite enough, with moments where the film finds itself repeating itself until deciding to move on to the next major beat. but still effectively unnerving in many ways, extremely funny in others, and a pretty easy to root for film. it's lovingly handcrafted in an era of craftless commercial excess and it happens to be about exactly that conflict.
