This definitely feels like a "watch it twice" kind of movie in terms of tracking all the people and moving pieces, and I've only watched it once so far, so it's hard to feel like I'm fully appreciating it. I do deeply enjoy the way everything about it is low-stakes, though—nothing from any end is glamorized, these are just people scrambling as best they can for existence, Eddie most of all.

Way more fun than historical fiction has any right to be. I've read some Zora Neale Hurston and some Langston Hughes but damn I really gotta just grab a copy of Fire!! and read it cover to cover.
