Nosferatu meets Taxi Driver, but not as good as either
It's a bummer this movie has no nuance. Especially considering how solid the acting is. The writers imagined what underprivileged kids’ suffering might look like but clearly they didn't have a clue what to do past the cliche stereotypes. Instead Kaye relies on pho artsy camera shots and kid suicides to guilt people into calling it a “good drama”. No thanks
This is my second watch of Prime, the first was over 15 years ago—before my first relationship, but even as a 12-year-old this movie’s ending stuck with me (as did the image of knitting a penis-hat). At the time, I didn’t understand why Raif and David broke up, they were still clearly in love!
Over a decade later, I no longer live on the upper west side and can’t drop into Magnolia for the spontaneous banana cream pudding sample. Though…
