Simultaneously intertwining modern politics, projectional white knighting, and introspective moral dilemmas?! While also being cleverly well made, darkly comedic, and insanely unique?! AND IT HAS ROBERT PATTINSON AND ZENDAYA?! It doesn’t get much better than this

Of all the anti-modernity trends and theories involving media, the one I devoutly believe in is children’s film and television becoming increasingly stimulatory and loud (with the hopes of continually capturing a child’s attention). It’s something that seems quite obvious as someone who has grown up with enough younger sisters to see the trend, and makes me yearn for the peacefulness that children’s media used to emanate. To me children’s film should be simple, not in a way that is…

My third movie in a row regarding facial deformities, and although the first it was unfortunately my least favorite. It was by no means bad, with creative cinematography that felt like eye candy, but in terms of plot it felt unengaging comparatively. The story is straightforward and filled with characters that for the most part say EXACTLY how they are feeling out loud to make sure we know EXACTLY what is going on thematically (in case we couldn't already tell),…

Without a doubt the least Lynch of every Lynch movie I have seen yet, instead of leaning towards psychedelia The Elephant Man presents as a very accurate and unsubtle take on the tragic story of the real-life John Merrick. It's a gut-wrenching story packed with powerhouse performances and memorable scenes (with the bathroom chase-down remaining ingrained in my mind), and it is amazingly paced from front to back. It's one of those films that simply *feel* like a classic when…

It's hard not to feel biased talking about this movie because of how much I adore Bob Dylan and how much the history of that era piques my interest. The film centers around the movements of the era and the sequence of events in Dylan's career rather than focusing on Bob Dylan as a character himself, and its dramatic effect is highly reliant on knowledge of his music or at least respect for the references. Besides this somewhat odd choice…

Snowpiercer but better? Both are unsubtle and unrelenting with anti-capitalist themes, but what Mickey 17 excels at most is its comedic flair and sci-fi style. Plenty of hilarious moments and ridiculous situations that make this silly dystopian society feel surreal and unique enough in the realm of the space exploration trope. Robert Pattinson was obviously incredible but Mark Ruffalo was the cherry on top with his perfectly over the top performance. Bong Joon-Ho really is a master of making movies that feel artful yet enjoyable for everyone.
