The Invite is, quite simply, the best film I’ve seen this year.
It’s painfully funny, cringeworthily awkward, brutally honest and incredibly smart. One minute you’re laughing out loud, the next you’re hiding behind your hands. It captures the tiny shifts in conversation, social dynamics and human behaviour with almost frightening accuracy.
Essentially a four-hander, it plays almost like a stage play, with echoes of the best work of Woody Allen and Mike Nichols, while still feeling completely fresh and modern.…
