Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu
Watched

It’s officially drive-in season!

I don’t make a habit of trashing movies. In my opinion, getting anything made is a miracle and I respect the work that is put into each film I watch, but The Mandalorian and Grogu made me actively miserable for two hours of my adult life, and I say that as a ride-or-die Star Wars fan who will defend Solo in public.

This doesn’t feel like a film. It feels like three rejected Disney+ episodes that…

Obsession
★★★ Watched

I know I’m probably the odd one out on this and I’m really not trying to yuck anyone’s yum… If you loved Obsession, I envy you a little. I go to these movies hoping they’ll wreck me. I want to sit in the dark and feel my stomach drop. I want to walk to the car afterwards still turning it over in my head.

So it genuinely hurts when I leave underwhelmed. It’s not that I want to dislike it;…

Scary Movie 3
★★★½ Liked Rewatched

Scary Movie 3 is the foundation of my childhood and one of the many reasons for my love of horror. I was so little when I saw it and it completely blew my mind.

Yeah, I usually skip Scary Movie 2 because of the tiny hand in mashed potatoes thing, but 3? Flawless. It’s not just jokes; the horror homages actually hit. The Ring sub-plot nails the dread before it gets stupid, which is mind-blowing, and then you get scenes…

Scary Movie
★★★½ Liked Rewatched

Doing a Scary Movie rewatch before the new one drops and it reminded me why the first three are untouchable.

The Wayans run, especially 1 and 3, is just flawless. Ruthless, stupid-smart, and totally fearless. I only recently clocked that they lost creative control after 3, and suddenly my reaction to Scary Movie 4 makes sense. I remember watching that trailer, feeling the vibe was off, and skipping it entirely. Never saw Scary Movie 5 either.

But 6? I’m in. Lately…

Sinners
★★★★★ Liked Watched

“You keep dancing with the Devil, one day he's gonna follow you home.”

Written and directed by Ryan Coogler, Sinners is a masterful piece of cinema with a message that cuts deep and leaves gaping wounds to be dissected. After working under Al Capone, twins Smoke and Stack return to their Mississippi hometown to open up their own juke joint. Asking their cousin Sammie to grace the joint with his blues talents, his tunes attract a group of vampires that…

47 Meters Down
★★★ Watched

I’ll admit it: I wrote this one off before watching. The reviews were rough, and shark movies have a low bar. But 47 Meters Down caught me off guard.

It nails the core of the sub-genre with pure, stripped-down survival dread. Trapped on the ocean floor with oxygen running out and great whites circling? Yeah, no thanks! What surprised me most was how believable Mandy Moore and Claire Holt were. They felt like two real people unraveling in an impossible…
