Visually stunning ~
A lot of people seem to not be surprised with the somewhat mixed reception of this one but i can't help being pretty surprised by it.
I enjoyed Alpha a lot. The visual metaphors and directorial choices here seem incredibly strong to me.

A few months ago I talked to some friends about Summer Wagner's photography. One really fascinating aspect of Wagner's work was how she plays with the compression of time into a single image, capturing time in a medium completely lacking temporality.
If photography was the capturing of a moment into a medium lacking temporality (which it probably isn't it's probably something much cooler that i don't understand) then Menken's work is kind of like anti-photography in a way.
