The movie has a huge trigger warning and I can't even say what it is because it would be a spoiler. Gratuitously grotesque in the worst way.

The kids being that dumb feels like lazy writing. Actually the entire family felt dumb. All that precaution while testing the mom to leave her unattended when you know she is a risk.
