"I love swords.. I love wielding swords."
I have to admit alot of my dislike for the movie is that the central thesis maybe hit too close to home. I think that they did a good job of understanding the essence of what, abstractly, was the original unease of the online photo(s). Using liminal spaces to represent the human fear of lack, unhealthy repetition, short sighted perspective on our own lives, ect. Even if some of the fleshing out (get it?) Of that concept felt lacking, according to my own personal tastes. I suppose I was expecting a more 'conservative' or 'stripped back' psychological horror than I got, which was amusement park esque.
Taking a peak at the director's filmography and my hunch that this was more of a fetish film than a horror movie seems validated. Moving forward with this new perspective definitely changes my initial opinions. The Human Centipede (First Sequence) makes a poor horror film, but it's wonderful fetish content.
