Honestly expected this to be a little overhyped, but it was good. The sound design is really something, and the atmosphere is crafted so well and packed with so much dread. The balance between humor and horror is well done, often whiplashing you between the two. More than anything though Inde Navarrette goes off, really carrying with that incredible performance. Some of those body movements were hella unsettling. And if you’ve ever dated someone with BPD, some of those scenes…
The way this movie opens doesn't even feel close to 1961, and the rest of the film often doesn't either. Some great dread and suspense through a haunting theme song, ambiguity, shadows, themes of repression, great acting, and uncanny statuesque poses that apparently helped inspire Carpenter's vision of Michael Myers. Easily a foundational film for the horror genre
