Something about this felt almost insultingly "just okay" for the promo it had but if you look at it as a straight-to-DVD Disney movie rather than a blockbuster, it works a charm. All for Ryan Gosling's quirky era since Barbie but I would love for Hollywood (or himself, or his agent) to remember he can deliver.

Pleasing yet weird adaptation where everyone is homo-erotically doing good work. Watched the director's cut of this for reasons unbeknownst to my heart but lord I know the Medieval Hannibal AUs went crazy in 2014.
Unbelievably moved by this on second viewing. I hadn't rewatched the trilogy in ten years and it obviously hits in a much deeper way at 29 then it did at 19. Refusing the easy idealization of the "reunion", this is more understated that you would imagine from two people who had been daydreaming about each other for a decade, but it purposefully feels more real as a result. Zendaya and Rob are unsurprinsingly electric and gave this underexplored concept the pzazz it needed to make you laugh and ponder. I don't see many people talk about how gorgeous the movie is (shot on film, that blue kitchen my lord). I felt like these characters could have had more uncomfortable conversations about the big secret but overrall, scary stuff, as any talk of marriage is.
