Even though I’ve been a fan of the OG TV series since I was a kid, and also Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, and The Voyage Home, for some reason I never saw this.  Not sure why.  Having watched it though, I wasn’t overly impressed.  It exists as the logical bridge (pun intended) from the series to the film world, and who better than certified hit maker Robert Wise to take the cinematic reins.  It looks great, but the…

The best of the trilogy, with no need for exposition or denouement, just getting right into it and setting up the final film perfectly.  A thrilling spectacle of the highest order, with an effective balance between character development and action.  Epic scope executed flawlessly with Jackson’s focused vision, blending fantasy/adventure with darker, more mystical elements.  It’s awe-inspiring to behold purely from a visual perspective, but the time taken to connect each moment with superb editing, and the emotional depth of the storytelling, are truly special.  Can’t wait to rewatch the third film.  What a cinematic experience.

Second viewing just made me even more appreciative of all that went into its construction.  The score, the cinematography, and the immaculate editing are all on another level.  The overall design of this film is something to behold, as is the impeccable execution of Coogler’s vision.  I love that it takes its time to succinctly establish the story and its characters before all hell breaks loose.  It makes for a highly effective experience.  My favorite post-credits scenes ever.  They exist to elevate the film even further.  What a powerhouse of a film.

It was fun re-watching, knowing what was coming, because it freed up the viewer to find the Easter Eggs we’d…
