Sort of sad that just about all of the CGI in this now plays as "AI Tubi commercial", instead of cheap/strange in a possibly ingratiating way. On the other hand, no one ever really liked this movie, so that might be overstated. Josh Sawyer has been attempting and failing to capture what Helen Mirren is doing here for the past 15 odd years.

Ah? But what of the siren song of fascism, Mr. Payne?

Also, there's a review here talking about Will Forte like, my god, look at how haggard he is. A sad symbol indeed of the guttering vitality of America. Well, he doesn't look that old. Boyish in a way, even. If you look like Will Forte ~2013 you don't look that old, and it's okay for you to still wear graphic tees from bandcamp.

Very strange film wherein a genius surgeon realizes a truly principled Marxist will let a hapless nerd sleep with his wife, to spread the wealth around. This is presented with a straight face but obviously not meant sincerely, which didn't go over well with the censors. There's an Oliver Hardy impersonator toddling around and day drinking that represents bourgeois vanity, which is cool. I like the shot where he's passed out next to a table of heavily frosted pastries, really conveys an air of suffocating malaise

I think it was Graham Greene who said Evelyn Waugh was as funny as a fascist could possibly be. Well. This is probably the funniest movie you could expect from a strident antivaxxer. For better or worse, Packard's made some of his best stuff after going off the rails during COVID.
