Made me cry like 5 separate times, so charming, moving, and insightful about the kinds of lessons (among them, learning to understand death) that will make an impact on children. Probably the best thing Jackman has ever been in? Low bar, but still.
Now that it’s premiering in a couple hours I can log this and say Camp Miasma easily remains my favorite film I’ve seen from this year. Very funny (I think about “split diopter!” every day), equal parts gutting and extraordinarily sweet— probably a needed tonal shift after TV Glow— and so clearly a Jane Schoenbrun film.
I wish I had something meaningful or insightful explanation as to why everyone is wrong and that this movie is a pile of shit, but I don’t. I can’t really condemn any of the filmmaking as lacking in quality. It’s not inherently poorly made. I just loathe everything about it.
