While I was digging up some info about this film, I came to realise that Elijah Bynum, the director of Magazine Dreams, was also the one responsible for the movie Hot Summer Nights. The shift is even more surprising, especially when you realise how much different they both are. Where his previous film left me rather cold, this one is far more intimate, more suffocating—less concerned with surface and much more with what festers underneath.
