2nd viewing confirms that the hype is real and Curry Barker is stamped. Inde Navarrette is so good in those brief moments when the ‘real’ Nikki breaks through which are so frightening and sad. Rewatch also revealed to me just how good Michael Johnston’s performance as Bear is, he’s such a sniveling little chud but you really do sympathize with him (at least early on). She was kind of microdosing Hannah Horvath here. The hispter indie rock dream of the 2000’s/early 2010’s was always really a myth of course but we must strive to keep it alive anyway. Greta Gerwig is electric. The movie has this Linklater-like hang out feel to it but its tone is much more melancholy and acerbic than his films.
