Great parody but a not great satire. Parker and Stone nail the exact feeling of an action film of this era, exposing such films as US propaganda. That is still the case today. Sadly, the film loses its way after a strong opening though there are plenty of funny moments throughout. The songs remain bangers.

To say that this film is problematic is an understatement. It is maybe one of the most transphobic films I’ve ever seen, perpetuating the stereotype of trans people as violent psychopaths. It’s treatment of women and people of color isn’t much better. That being said, it is extremely well directed. Eddington

2020 was an interesting time for sure. If you weren’t there, you sort of missed some stuff. Eddington is an attempt to capture the insanity of that time and I admire the attempt. It didn’t fully work for me but I admire what Ari Aster is trying to accomplish here. It was funny and bleak in entertaining ways but I felt like it lost some steam about a half hour before the movie ended, despite some fun thrills and chills. Ari Aster is a frustrating filmmaker but in a world of Smurfs, be an Eddington.
