Haven’t seen this in a while but one of the strongest movies ever made and the best mockumentary behind Spinal Tap.

The store room scene with Ed Begley Jr., the nuts scene, and the recording studio sequence are all timers.

The dogs are very cute in this, too.

Film looks really interesting and loved that they are trying a throwback 80s style PG fantasy movie here, that is original. Real puppets and matte paintings galore. Unfortunately some of the visuals have an AI sort of aesthetic despite all of that work.

Dafoe is great as always, but the rest of the cast lags, especially Finn Wolfhard who feels like a stunt cast somehow.

Trying to do Spielberg emotionality without the talent just holds this one back from being…

Been probably 15 years or so since I last watched this super formative movie for me. Still lots to love and everything holds up!

If I had to critique I’d say the last act where things go haywire are somehow less interesting than the Edward integrating into the neighborhood parts.
