The Favourite is an interesting departure from my two previous Yorgos Lanthimos experiences (Bugonia and The Killing of a Sacred Deer) in that, tonally, it's less sinister and dark and the abstract strangeness and humour is slightly muted, but still apparent. It's really good, don't get me wrong, and might actually be my favourite Yorgos film of those I have seen so far. The production design is great and I really liked the score…

This was my first Denis Villeneuve movie and he certainly didn't disappoint. It's a film which, at points, I wasn't sure I was entirely on board with; but looking at the full picture after finishing it, I'm impressed. It's a really nice and refreshing turn in the sci-fi genre. A really unsettling, unpleasant, and uncomfortable watch. The film does a really good job of capturing the grimy and grim aesthetic it's going for; entrenching New York as an almost hellish place. To contrast the dirty underworld we delve into, the movie is beautifully shot and, at times, utterly gorgeous to look at. I quite like the ambiguity…
