First time in theaters. 1000th time overall. First time since moving to New York which was cool cause now I recognize the train lines and the neighborhoods. Special special movie about how monetizing your passion can cannibalize that passion;  about grieving a lost friend; about losing your connective tissue to the social world; about feeling like nothing changes but everything gets worse; about how depression makes every word feel coarse, sharp, unpleasant; about cats and being cold in the winter.…

Big and romantic and wonderful. There’s an early scene where Superman and Lois do their first interview where the movie digs its roots so firmly in a recognizable and complex reality, so that none of the fantastical goofy James Gunn superhero bullshit (and there’s plenty) can detach you from the sense of stakes or the investment in the characters.

I had high hopes for this. The Donner Superman is a childhood comfort movie. I came in kind of hoping for…
