Wonderful. I absolutely loved this. Very of its time in many ways but also feels very ahead of it in others. An amazingly good and empathetic depiction of mental illness for the 1950s, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the harms of institutionalization and the social critique of how society treats those it deems "different" or "crazy" in a movie from this time period. James Stewart also gives an all-time performance in this one. New comfort movie unlocked.

Felt like a Disney parks recreation. It’s fine but it’s mostly lifeless outside of The Rock clearly having fun. Also this has distractingly bad green screen lighting, like some of the worst I’ve ever seen in a major movie. Obviously the original is good so this isn’t atrocious, but if I had never seen the original I still don’t think I would have gotten much from this. I was very bored and took a little
nap during it. This did not hold my attention at all.

Wow. Just wow. A piece of art has never affected me as deeply as this did. I’m blown away.

This movie hit so close to home for me that it made me genuinely uncomfortable at times how real this felt. There are so many elements of this that I relate to: my older sister is an adult woman with Down Syndrome, and like Anna, she too is adopted, and our mother passed away recently and she has had to deal…

Luca Guadagnino did NOT need to go this hard omg

From the insane camerawork, to the great performances from the three actors (especially Josh O’Connor), to the fantastic score, to a Lily Allen needledrop (!!), to multiple visual references to Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train, this was extremely well-crafted and meticulous and very much made for me. The only things that keeps me from saying it’s amazing though are that it’s a bit too long, and the pacing of the third act didn’t completely work for me, but I feel like on a rewatch it might work better. I’m so excited to watch this again.
