Even though I’m not a huge horror fan, I do enjoy original horror like Barbarian and Weapons. Obsession is in the same camp as Cregger’s films. Maybe it’s because I know the feeling of being friend-zoned, but this hit hard. Anyway, what a compelling and disturbing time in the theater - I really enjoyed the film!
I know Scorsese hates comic book films, which irks me, BUT he truly is the greatest to ever do it. I worried about how he would adapt the book, which is fantastic, but he made a film that is different, yet still amazing. Lily Gladstone deserves all the praise, but I was most impressed by De Niro - it’s his best performance in years, maybe decades. I loved this film and I may just watch it again in theaters. Highly recommended.
I thought the film was so stylish and sexy. Coogler’s direction and the sound/music necessitate an in-theater viewing. While I thought Michael B. Jordan was good, the twin gimmick made me less invested in the characters. I also wish the story focused solely on Miles Caton’s character of Sammy, who I found the most interesting. Anyway, we need to support auteurs like Coogler. He still has so much to say about our past and present - we must continue to allow him to flourish.
