I have a much deeper appreciation for Louise’s characterization of accepting her destiny because it’s the strongest point for the thesis of “humanity needs to learn how to better communicate and exist with one another.” The radical acceptance of her fate, and ultimately sharing the truth with Ian is what makes her so believable retroactively. A nearly 100 year old movie that feels much more inclusive than our current times AND has a gag worthy ending? I’m here for it.
I have been watching so many new movies that this felt like a breath of fresh air. There’s something so tactile and empathetic here which feels heightened by its historical quality. The acting is very much on par for the 30’s.
Reminded me a lot of EEAAO but wasn’t as effective as that film in terms of making something that’s so out of the box and seeing what sticks while also having an engaging narrative at its heart.
