May December

Well, here we are, at the time where I have something to say (I mentioned this when I first saw the movie as I unable to properly articulate my words). Watching this time around with subtext at the front of my mind was riveting. I won’t go over every detail, just the ones that stood out to me and provide little vignettes into these scenes.

Side note: May December is a movie directed by a gay man and upon this viewing…

An infinite possibility becoming tangible.

Blue is my favorite color. It’s the color of my eyes, the color of the sky, and the color of the deep oceans and lakes nearby. Blue has forever been a part of my life. I share a birthday with my great-uncle, who I never met, as he passed away from AIDS, but his memory has been something which occupies. Occupied my mind as child when I asked “why?” when I learned my birthday means…

I have a much deeper appreciation for Louise’s characterization of accepting her destiny because it’s the strongest point for the thesis of “humanity needs to learn how to better communicate and exist with one another.” The radical acceptance of her fate, and ultimately sharing the truth with Ian is what makes her so believable retroactively. There’s also the way she deals with the military / government which goes to the main point of the movie and reveals the role of…

A nearly 100 year old movie that feels much more inclusive than our current times AND has a gag worthy ending? I’m here for it.

I have been watching so many new movies that this felt like a breath of fresh air. There’s something so tactile and empathetic here which feels heightened by its historical quality. The acting is very much on par for the 30’s.

Reminded me a lot of EEAAO but wasn’t as effective as that film in terms of making something that’s so out of the box and seeing what sticks while also having an engaging narrative at its heart. I Love Boosters was funny at first, and also somewhat compelling and engaging! For the entire movie there is this vibrancy that is unmatched in much of modern cinema. There are also some amazing Buster Keaton and/or Looney Tunes like gags which were…

Tampopo

Watched this in a full house (which immensely added to the experience) then immediately got ramen after which reminded me that life is so good when you’re able to share cinema and food in good company <3

Tampopo is a delightful blend of a western, parody, comedy, drama, porn snd three slices of pork which fed my soul on this snowy day. Every single performance was locked in and delivered with a lot of passion and care for the characters even…
