Adding this film to my list of “I’d watch anything to see Andre Holland”. I don’t know how to convey how hollow and unfinished this film is. Everyone with crucial parts seems to be passing by and with no significant center. It was beautiful but it just seems the novella doesn’t lend itself to visual adaptation, at least not in this iteration. Still it was enjoyable to watch my favorite actors in one film together.

What a great cast. There were some great bones here and great laughs. I will be thinking about the Amish couple singing “Why I Love You” by Major forever. Like how would Amish people know this very Black song.

So many Aretha songs. We love a robust music budget.

The script lags a lot and goes down very predictable tropes but has great heart. I liked it.

White people seem to hate this film, A TESTAMENT TO IT'S GREATNESS.

This dark comedy is a striking representation of what it's like to be the acerbic Black sheep and what compulsory grief looks like. And it has Mamoudou Athie!
