Silent Friend

Sets out the intent very early on to be a set of metaphors about nature and perception, and succeeds admirably.  Occasionally too on-the-nose, but it cuts a warm and engaging path through the themes and moments.

Eddington

PTSD movie.  Traumatized characters, traumatizing the audience that lived through that surreal time.  Aster writes himself into a corner by the two-thirds mark and doesn’t quite write himself out, but there is a lot of resonant imagery and desperate satire that hits home.

Stray Dog

First viewing on the big screen and that is how this is meant to be seen!  The energy and rhythm of the walking-the-back-alleys scene is hypnotic.  Having just seen “High and Low” some of the visual rhyming was cool - another jumpy nightclub scene, another key sequence in an open space outside of the city to contrast with that crowded urban energy.  Mifune showing his range but always with that angry pride bubbling under it all.

Actually, not a sausage.  A nutritional meat alternative.

Light, fun coming-of-age family film.  Great to see it in a theatre full of laughter.
