John Waters for President.

An absolutely jaw-dropping creative achievement. Live action, 2D animation, stop-motion, stock footage, matte paintings, forced perspective, bonkers sound design, meticulously hand-crafted and hand-painted sets…Zeman uses every cinematic trick imaginable, often times in the same shot. It's only 80 minutes long, but it takes 3 hours to watch because you have to constantly pause and rewind in order to fully process what you're seeing. For the love of God, watch this movie as soon as you can (It's titled "Invention For Destruction" on Criterion.)

The painful irony here is that if someone wrote the original Beetlejuice script in 2024 it wouldn't have a chance in hell of actually being produced.

It's like they took stock of all the things that bother me about lesser movies and just straight up didn't do any of 'em.
