The film could obviously have been brilliant. Its fantastical religious imagery is incredible. The sandcastle scene is perfect. The breakdown of all humanity into hivemind ooze is one of the most interesting twists I've ever seen. It's a great way to demonstrate that the boundaries that stop us from knowing each other are the same boundaries that make us whole. Or human I suppose.
But for a film so concerned with how a single perspective can collapse all of humanity…

I have a soft spot for stories about entities befriending strange people. This one is beautiful.
